Glass maker corning has published a new video that shows their concept of the future, filled with glass tablets, touchscreen walls, and other trippy virtual technologies. The video basically covers what could be possible in the future – or at least what’s possible with glass, mobile, and touchscreen technologies – in education, the medical industry, transportation, energy, domestic life, plus an awesome concept on what could be done in a nature park using augmented reality (spoiler: it has dinosaurs!). If you only had the time to watch just one future concept video this week, watch this one. It’ll make you wish you were born in the future, or at least make you hope you could live long enough to see it happen. Amazing video after the break.
We’re all familiar with Siri’s issues by now. While the iPhone 4S – and the Siri personal assistant feature that comes with it – has been selling like crack-laced hotcakes all around the world, Siri is still mostly US-centric. Siri is limited to giving you driving directions for US streets, and will currently only recognize the English language. But it doesn’t end there. Evidently, Siri also has a problem with certain accents, as a lot of Scots have discovered. To demonstrate, someone put out this YouTube clip, illustrating just how frustrating it is to talk to Siri when you have a thick accent. [video after the break]
Ever since the release of the Kindle Fire – a.k.a. Amazon’s first actual tablet – there have been a number of complaints that range from a power button that’s too easy to accidentally hit to a screen that’s just not as good as advertised. Well Conan caught on to that and released this clip, where Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (“as far as you know”) apologizes for the tablet’s shortcomings and offers a couple of solutions in case you bought one and you’re not happy with it. Check out the video after the break; the last bit about the software update’s “brand new, one-touch solution button” looks handy.
In case you don’t remember the Sony Ericsson Xperia active, it’s a compact smartphone that SE first unveiled way back in June featuring Android OS and a rugged frame for adventurous types. It comes with a pretty typical spec with a 3-inch screen, 1GHz processor, 5MP cam and microSD card slot for storage, but you can get that on a number of other phones. This phone banks on its rugged features, like the Gorilla glass screen and reinforced water- and dust-resistant shell. A YouTube user thought to test out how tough the little phone is, subjecting it to hammer hits, knife scratches, drowning, and a Jeep Wrangler. You can check out the videos after the break, but we’ll tell you now: The Xperia active is legitimately tough. It lived through all of the tests and managed to still look cute.
You’ve seen Siri rap, play the piano, and sort out even the most impossible schedules for good ol’ Saint Nick. Now, you get to see Siri act, as the digital assistant stars in The Holiday Horror Movie. Okay, it’s actually a spoof trailer for a fake slasher movie, but the clip is something worth watching if you like extra heaps of cheese with your humor and have an extra two minutes on hand. The Holiday Horror Movie trailer starts off with a bunch of kids getting an iPhone 4S for Christmas. Siri then somehow becomes autonomous, and proceeds to murder the proverbial crap out of everyone, Jason-style. Fun! [video after the break].
