Microsoft will set up shop in your home to help you get rid of your old PC   Microsoft ad Julie

An ad campaign that pushes you towards buying a new product? The concept’s not that original. But the delivery’s certainly unconventional. Microsoft’s new ad campaign takes its aim at people who usually cling to their old, outdated PCs because… well, they still work. But since hardware and software companies don’t get anything if you don’t buy a new one (except for the satisfaction of delivering a product that lasted that long), they’d like you to check out all the cool new things modern computers bring to the table. In this first ad, they’re targeting “Julie,” who apparently hasn’t seen an iMac before. She never thought of buying a new PC because computers didn’t look like they were getting better. So what did Microsoft do? Oddly enough, instead of just giving this lady a spanking new PC, they set up a damn store inside her living room so they can sell her one. [video after the break]

The PC vs Mac, according to Microsoft   pc vs macMicrosoft recently put up a new PC vs Mac page on their Windows 7 section that compares the two platforms, or at least to try to convince you that one system is better than the other. The end results are naturally Windows-biased, of course. It’s set up to convince people on the fence to pick up a Windows-powered PC over a Mac after all. Before we get to the comparisons, let’s just throw this in: we really don’t think there are that many people still “on the fence” anymore. It’s either you’re more comfortable with a PC or a Mac, and there are those who own—and are comfortable with working—both. (more…)

Microsoft COO thinks the iPhone 4 is Apple’s ‘Windows Vista’   Kevin Turner Microsoft COO thEveryone who’s been a Windows user for the past few years would agree that Vista was a big let-down. Case in point? A lot of people—XP users, mostly—skipped on Vista altogether and jumped from XP to Windows 7. The fact that Vista, well, sucked, was so established that Microsoft willingly admits to it. Like recently, when Microsoft’s COO Kevin Turner used the Vista reference to describe the iPhone 4, as if ‘Vista’ was a new term for some kind of tech industry product fail.
