It’s been a while since we last thought about the white version of the iPhone 4, but it looks like it’s pretty close to finally being released. Apple just reconfirmed what they officially announced last October, saying that the white iPhone 4 is still on track for a spring release. And since spring is just about to end, we could expect Apple to roll them out by the end of April or early May. Either way, it’s pretty close.
All the talk of the white iPhone 4 has pretty much faded away in the wake of the iPad 2 announcement (and in anticipation of a new iPhone by June or July), but in case you’re still waiting for it, then here’s an update: according to this report, “manufacturers will initiate production of the GSM-based iPhone 4 version in white enclosures and begin dispatching them to Apple ahead of general availability planned for next month.”
Here’s the latest on the white iPhone 4: according to a Pocket-lint source, the white iPhone 4 will be hitting UK shops by the end of March. That pretty much confirms Apple’s own statement that said the white version of the phone “will be available in spring, 2011.” News about the much-delayed, but-now-impending release of the white iPhone 4 has been making the rounds lately, popping up on different networks in different countries, as well as on AT&T’s online account system in the US. If the age-old “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” adage proves true, Apple might truly be ready to release the white models within the next couple of months. Of course, by the time it gets released, that gives you around three to four months to enjoy your “rare” white iPhone 4 before Apple comes out with the next-gen iPhone, so maybe you’d want to wait for that.
Just when you might have forgotten about it, it looks like AT&T’s getting ready to bring the white iPhone 4 back to the table again. Just like Best Buy, who might be getting ready to stock and sell the mobile phone world’s equivalent to a unicorn, a listing for two versions (16GB and 32GB) of the white iPhone 4 has been spotted on AT&T’s online account management system. It’s just a listing though—a simple drop-down that lists available phone models—with no other info regarding the answer to the all-important “when will it ship?” question. But if the Best Buy leak is any sign, it could launch sometime in late February (the 27th, to be exact) or March. Just in time for you to ask another question: should you buy a white iPhone 4, or wait for the fifth-gen iPhone to come out within the next few months?

Where did he get it? It would have been easy to assume that he used his connections at Apple (where they’re apparently pretty common) to score one, but it looks like he got it the same way we all would have if we could afford it (and if we were willing to pay for it). He didn’t give a definite answer to the “how did you get that?” question, but he did suggest that he “got in quick and ordered my set of parts,” which means that he got a mod kit for turning the regular black one to the rare-as-a-unicorn white iPhone 4.
