Western Digital has just updated their line of media players with the WD TV Live Hub that pretty much ties a lot of different devices into this one box. Like every other WD TV device, it’s a full HD media center for playing movies, music and photos, and it’s a network drive with 1TB of storage space for serving up media to either an HDTV.
Western Digital just updated a number of their external drives with larger storage capacities and faster connections. Their smallest portable drive, the My Passport Essential, gets a faster USB 3.0 connection and a capacity of 500GB, while the My Passport Essential SE gets the faster interface and bigger storage caps of 750GB and 1TB. The external storage headliner is the My Book Essential external desktop drive, which just got updated with a USB 3.0 connection and boasts of “the highest industry capacity” with a new model that tops out at 3TB.
After coming up with more and more connected players with the WD TV Live and Live Plus—both connect to the net, offering streaming media, while the WD TV Live Plus supports Netflix and other paid content—they toned it down a bit with the WD Elements Play, a drive-based media player that drops the price if you don’t mind losing the connectivity.
Western Digital just cooked a way to spice up the mobile hard drive market by releasing five My Passport Essential drives with limited edition designs. Labeled as Boom Box, Black Hole, Cityscape, Fuschia Leaf and Wave, the patterns were created by design students at the California State University and slapped on top of WD’s shiny vanilla My Passport Essential drives.
Western Digital just announced an update to their WD TV line of media players that extends your options from a hard drive to the net. The WD TV Live Plus is basically an updated version of the WD TV Live media player, which will feature everything the original WD TV Live originally offered (Full HD 1080p video playback, network support and streaming, composite and HDMI video connections) but adds full DVD-like navigation and access to Netflix.
