ViewSonic has announced US launch plans for the ViewPad 10Pro tablet that they first showed off earlier this year. What makes it so special? It’s a rare tablet that offers dual-boot capabilities, letting you run either Android or Windows 7. Despite the unique capability, it’s not going to be the most advanced tablet to fill store shelves when it arrives in the end of August, but it’s certainly an interesting option if you’re someone who’s looking to replace that netbook in your travel bag.
Budget tablet shoppers, this one’s for you. Viewsonic’s 7-inch, Android-powered ViewBook VB730 is now up for sale on Amazon. Packing a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 512MB of RAM and an 800 x 400 screen, it’s not the most decked-out tablet in the market, but it’s certainly something to consider, mostly because this slate costs less than half a regular tablet’s price at $230.
ViewSonic just unveiled a couple of new ViewPads at Computex 2011, the 7-inch, Android-running ViewPad 7x and the 10-inch ViewPad 10Pro. The ViewPad 10Pro is a little different from the usual 10-inch Android slate though; this thing’s aimed at the enterprise market (which explains the “Pro” part), running on Intel’s Oak Trail Atom processor and a Windows 7 Professional (of course) OS.
ViewSonic has just announced that the ViewPad 10, their 10-inch tablet that can boot both Windows 7 and Android 1.6 (1.6??), is now available. A nice choice if you really can’t make up your mind between a device powered by Android, or a Windows-powered tablet, but you’re certain you don’t want an iPad. It’s specced pretty much like a netbook, running on a 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor, 2GBs of memory, Wi-fi 802 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity, and packs a 1.3-megapixel front-facing cam for video chatting, and while Android 1.6 might not seem like that big a deal, at least this predominantly Windows-powered device can still run it if you want to (although we assume that if you’re interested in the ViewPad 10, you really want it because you need a Windows-powered tablet, correct?). Anyway, it’s available now, starting at $599 for a model that includes a 16GB SSD and Windows Home Premium, and tops out at $679 for double the storage capacity and Windows 7 Professional. We’re not sure exactly how much success ViewSonic got from the dual-booting ViewPad 10 late last year (apparently, the Android 1.6 OS it came with didn’t make it so hot), but they’re at it again. ViewSonic has just introduced the ViewPad 10Pro, which, like the original ViewPad 10, also loads both Windows and Android operating systems, but with a more “professional” angle.
