Heads-up, potential-Android-tablet-shopper, ViewSonic’s 7-inch ViewPad 7 just popped up on Amazon. Not really shocking news, since ViewSonic did mention coming out with it sometime in late-2010, but the $600 price isn’t what we all expected. In fact, it’s considerably more expensive than what was mentioned earlier this month, when they said it was going to cost $480.
ViewSonic just announced that they’ll be launching their Android-running ViewPad tablets in the US as soon as late December. The ViewPad 10 has already turned up in a number of leaks and previews before, but in case you haven’t heard of it yet, here’s what it’ll bring to the table: a wide (1066 x 600) 10.1-inch LED-backlit screen, a 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB memory, and 16GBs of storage. Yeah, it sounds like a netbook’s spec. But it should work like one too (sans built-in keyboard, of course). This thing ships with both Android 1.6 and Windows 7 Home Premium, which might be an edge if you’re still hooked on the idea of bringing your Windows programs and content with you.
We already know about the 7-inch ViewPad that will also be a huge-7-inch phone, but little else about the 10-inch tablet except for the short mention from a leak that it’ll dual-boot into either a Windows 7 or Android 1.6 OS. ViewSonic just pulled the curtains on the 10-incher—now officially known as the ViewPad 100—that basically looks like a tablet (which it actually is), but packs a netbook’s spec (which is totally fine since it’ll run Windows 7 anyway).
ViewSonic just ended the rumors and officially announced the 7-inch ViewPad ahead of the scheduled official unveil at IFA. So what’s new besides what we already know from the info leaks? Apparently, it’s also going to come with full 3G connectivity, with the ability to handle voice calls and texting. So it’s not just a tablet. It’s also going to be a huge, 7-inch phone.
So move over, Dell Streak. Your 5-inch screen doesn’t sound that crazy anymore.
ViewSonic already confirmed that they were getting ready to unveil a 7-inch and 10-inch Tablet at the IFA show set for next week, but a recent leak gives us a good look into what it’s all about. The 7-inch model, the ViewPad 7, will run on an Android OS and an ARM processor, while the larger ViewPad 10 will pack an Intel Atom and boot both Android and Windows.
