Need a notebook that’s both rugged and compact? Panasonic has a lot of those, under their Toughbook line. They just introduced another one called the S10, a three-pound, 12.1-inch ultraportable notebook that features a drop-resistant magnesium alloy shell and a spill-resistant keyboard. The highlight on this kit? It packs a battery that’s rated to last up to 12.5 hours. Handy in case you need to work away from a power socket for half a day.
Panasonic will be launching an Android-based tablet under their Toughbook brand. Exactly when this tablet will be out is still unknown (they haven’t formally launched it yet), but it looks like the device has already been fleshed-out. In a sea of Android-based tablets, what will make this one stand out? Well, it’s a Toughbook, so it’s going to come with a shell that’s built for the outdoors, including a matte display that works well in direct sunlight and a rugged, shock-resistant outer shell to protect it from the elements.
Well, as long as the puppy weighs around 3 pounds. Anyway, that’s the Toughbook S9’s main selling point: It’s pretty light for its size and feature set. So light, in fact, that they’re claiming it to be the lightest 12.1-inch notebook with a DVD drive at 3 pounds. And since it also falls under Panasonic’s Toughbook line, it’s also tough enough to take more than the average beating. Specifically, the tough (but light) magnesium alloy case and shock-mounted hard drive is built to take a 30-inch drop and up to 220 pounds of pressure sitting on top of it, which could prove handy when you’re traveling. The keyboard’s also protected against spills in case you get clumsy with your morning coffee.
Panasonic has just announced the 14-inch Toughbook F9, a rugged business laptop that’s being touted as “the world’s lightest 14-inch laptop” at 3.6 pounds. It’s no performance lightweight though; they packed an Intel Core i5 VPro processor inside the Toughbook’s rugged frame.
