Samsung has just unveiled their flagship Androi-powered mobile, the I9000 Galaxy S at CTIA 2010. It strangely looks familiar, but it’s no iPhone-clone; it’s a pretty powerful mobile that runs on a 1GHz processor and Android 2.1 operating system that’s packed into a slim 9.9mm frame topped with a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen. What exactly is a “Super AMOLED” screen? In a few words, they’re awesome-ized OLED screens.
Motorola has officially unveiled the i1, a touchscreen phone the bears the distinction of being the first Android phone to come with Nextel’s push-to-talk (PTT) feature. The photos show a pretty good looking phone, but the spec outlines a phone that’s also built to be pretty tough, with a shell that’s built to meet the US military’s 810F standards for dust, shock and splash resistance. Aside from that, it’s your regular Android 1.5 smartie—if you consider a rugged 3.1-inch touchscreen smartphone with a 5MP camera and PTT functions “regular.”
HTC doesn’t usually come out with color options for their phones, but this set of unofficial photos says that they’ll be adding another silver color option besides the existing black/ dark brown model for the range-topping Desire. (Also unofficially tagged as “the phone known as the Nexus One version for everyone living outside the US”.)
While it’s not necessarily the most advanced Android phone around, the Motorola Backflip certainly does have a unique twist to it. Backflip is more than a name though, it’s a description for a phone that comes with a qwerty keyboard on the other side of a hinge that allows it to be placed on a tabletop for hands-free viewing.
The Nexus One is an excellent smartphone. Just don’t put them in your pockets (like you would any other phone). Apparently, a CNET UK staffer told HTC support that the display on their Nexus One cracked “while charging on a desk.” Now, no one can prove that it was actually charging on a desk or if it was dropped from the desk while charging, but HTC’s tech support suggested that a small crack could be caused by putting the phone in a tight pair of jeans and then sitting down, and the crack just spread.
