Not Google Android-droid, Star Wars-droid. This iPhone case is probably one of the best Star Wars-themed product to come out of the Star Wars Celebration event held last week… if you’re not a die-hard fan, you don’t care much about the upcoming Droid 2 R2-D2 edition, you happen to have an iPhone 3G or 3GS, and you don’t mind shelling out $30 for a case, that is.
The Moto Droid 2 R2-D2 edition made an appearance at the Star Wars convention in Orlando (of course!), with fresh new photos posted over at Android Central. Nothing new by way of what’s going to be loaded, but the banner did confirm a release date: “Coming to your galaxy 9.30.10.” More photos—clearer shots compared to the first leak—after the break.
Moto announced that a special Star Wars-themed edition of the Droid 2 was coming, but all they gave out was a teaser page that showed R2-D2’s silhouette. The teaser worked though; it did manage to tickle our intrigued bones for a day or so since they confirmed the special edition’s existence. And now the mystery ends: A leaked image of the Star Wars-ed Droid 2 was posted on Twitter. It’s a single photo that shows an R2-D2-themed backside, so the inner Star Wars-themed details remain to be seen. Or heard. Shouldn’t take long though: the special edition Droid 2 is expected out sometime next month.

If you plan to get your hands on a Droid 2 by the end of the week, you might want to head over to Verizon’s Droid 2 page now and sign up. The virtual doors just opened, so it’s time to fall into the virtual line or face a long wait time that’s not so virtual in case initial supplies fall short for the Thursday launch. You can get the Droid X’s keyboard-packing cousin for $199 with a 2-year Verizon contract after a $100 rebate, or you can just shell out the full $560 if you want the phone without the Verizon line.
