We’ve been waiting for Sony Ericsson to unveil something big ever since we got wind of the phones known only as the LT28at and Nozomi in late-2011. While this isn’t necessarily the “big thing” we’ve been waiting for, it definitely is a step. Sony Ericsson has filed a trademark for the Xperia ION name. While the US PTO didn’t have any specific details about the product, the documents did point to a product for the cellphone market.
In case you don’t remember the Sony Ericsson Xperia active, it’s a compact smartphone that SE first unveiled way back in June featuring Android OS and a rugged frame for adventurous types. It comes with a pretty typical spec with a 3-inch screen, 1GHz processor, 5MP cam and microSD card slot for storage, but you can get that on a number of other phones. This phone banks on its rugged features, like the Gorilla glass screen and reinforced water- and dust-resistant shell. A YouTube user thought to test out how tough the little phone is, subjecting it to hammer hits, knife scratches, drowning, and a Jeep Wrangler. You can check out the videos after the break, but we’ll tell you now: The Xperia active is legitimately tough. It lived through all of the tests and managed to still look cute.
A previously-unknown Sony Ericsson smartphone has just been spotted as details popped up at the Bluetooth SIG site listed only by its LT28at product code (which means that it’s headed for AT&T). The listing doesn’t include images of the phone itself, but it did reveal some interesting high-end details that include a 4.55-inch Reality display with a 720 x 1280 resolution, LTE support, and a premium 13MP back-illuminated camera sensor with an LED flash and 720 front-facing cam.
A fresh set of photos of Sony Ericsson’s unannounced premium phone just popped up on GSM Arena, giving us a clear look at the phone only known by the codename “Nozomi” (or “Xperia Arc HD”). The fresh reveal isn’t all about the looks, though (although it does look like an awesome phone, judging by the photos), the tip also included the phone’s specs.
Unofficial news of an upcoming high-end phone from Sony Ericsson has got people excited ever since details of it leaked out back in September, but since a launch window was never revealed, the hype kind of left us hanging. Well here’s an update on that front: according to a tip to Phone Arena, the phone (codenamed Nozomi) is expected to be officially unveiled on January 10th, 2012, most likely during SE’s turn onstage on the opening day of CES 2012.
