Panasonic has pulled out two new rugged point and shoot cams, highlighted by the Lumix TS4. Currently the toughest cam on Panasonic’s Lumix line, the TS4 is built with a case that can survive dips down to 40 feet of water, drops from up to 6.6 feet, as well as dust and extreme temperatures (down to 14F).
While everyone could certainly use a smartphone, sometimes, you just want a phone that won’t kick the bucket when you’re roughing it. If you’re looking for something like that, then Verizon’s serving one up today: the Casio G’zOne Ravine 2, a rugged clamshell phone that’s built to survive the elements.
Swann has introduced the Freestyle HD, a wearable camera that’s capable of shooting 1080p HD videos and surviving dives of up to 65 feet underwater. What exactly would you do with such a thing? Pretty much anything you want to – or at least anything that’s worth recording – since it’s compact enough to make it handy to carry around (it measures only 60mm x 51mm x 42mm), and it comes with a number of straps and mounts for hands-free use. Handy for bear-wrestling, and–thanks to the waterproof case–swimming with sharks. Or any other activity that’s so dangerous, you’d want to record it in 1080p for showing off in case you live to tell the tale.
This is the Motorola MOTOACTV, a touch-based compact music player with a form factor that makes it look like the iPod nano’s athletic, muscle-bound brother. Sounds like a simple generalization, since they’re both new MP3 players, but that’s really the best way to describe it. Like the nano, the MOTOACTV is a music player that sports a 1.6-inch touchscreen, as well as an accessory that’ll let you rock it as a wristwatch. But Moto’s player adds a lot more in the mix: as a player that specifically targets athletes and outdoorsy-types, the player is built to last with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, and a case that’s sweat-proof and rain-resistant.
Motorola has officially introduced the Defy+, an Android-powered smartphone designed for people with active lifestyles… or lazy people who just happen to work or live in rough environments. Anyway, you get the picture: it’s a tough smartphone. Tough enough to meet IP67 specifications thanks to a body designed for water, scratch and shock resistance and a 3.7-inch touchscreen protected by Gorilla Glass.
