As expected, Sony Ericsson has officially introduced the Xperia Play at the Mobile World Congress, which we’re all still going to unofficially know as “The PlayStation Phone.” After being detailed in so many leaks, there isn’t so much to be surprised about, but don’t get us wrong: a smartphone with a 4-inch screen, runs on Android 2.3, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and Andreno 205 graphics, and features full PlayStation-quality 3D gaming (complete with all the controls) amounts to a pocketful of awesome. Hit the break for the official press release and full spec list.
If you didn’t catch Sony Ericsson’s rather unsettling Super Bowl ad for the Xperia Play (showing the Android mascot stitched with human hands), then you can watch it after the break. But if you want to know more, then you’re going to have to wait for the weekend. Sony Ericsson just put up this poster on their FaceBook page, saying that they’ll be officially announcing the Android-powered, PlayStation-certified Xperia Play smartphone on February 13th, which is a day before everyone else gets to unveil whatever they’re up to at the Mobile World Congress. Regarding what to expect from the official announcement, there’s not much info that hasn’t been released (or leaked out) already so we’re basically just itching to get a launch date and price for the thing. Hit the break for the full poster and the official “Android is ready to play” teaser video, which happens to be the exact same video someone leaked out a few days ago.
A TV commercial for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play has been leaked out and posted on YouTube, which is probably a few days before it’s meant to be released (Sony Ericsson is expected to unveil the phone at the MWC later this month). It’s a little bit weird though; the video shows the Android mascot being stitched up with human thumbs (for mobile gaming, of course) by a questionable “surgeon” in a really seedy back room. The message: “Android is ready to play.” The result? We got a little bit of the creeps. Man, that was weird. Check out the leaked video after the break.
We’ve already seen what the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play (also known as the PlayStation Phone) looks like, and we already have a pretty good idea what the specs are going to be. That doesn’t stop the leaks from coming in though. Sony Ericsson’s gaming phone just turned up again, this time served up on a display counter. When the Xperia Play starts making it onto store shelves (whenever that is), expect the device to be propped up on one of these.
China-based website TGBus just put out a series of photos showing Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play (aka the ‘PlayStation Phone’) being taken apart. Which is actually funny since, you know, it shouldn’t even exist (Sony never confirmed that it even existed). Anyway, since we’re here and looking at shots of an actual existing Xperia Play being dismantled, here’s what they found inside.
