Good news for the large number of people who held onto their Nokia E71 handsets after Nokia unveiled the E72: The company’s Ovi Maps 3.0 walk and drive navigation app that was made totally free of charge a few months ago, has now been extended to support the older E71 and E66 phones.
Nokia might have found a way to keep the iPhone and Droid-crazy mobile market interested in the brand by offering a new version of Ovi Maps. How is that a big deal? Well, they dropped the subscription fees for the service, which means that the Ovi Maps software update now offers turn-by-turn navigation (for pedestrians and drivers) for free. That means you can now explore or get lost without having to think about the cost of a mobile navigation service.

Nokia’s newest version of their mobile GPS navigation software, Ovi Maps 3.0, is now available for download. For use on Nokia GPS-enabled phones, Ovi Maps 3.0 adds a new set of improvements that include high-resolution satellite and terrain maps in both 2D and 3D, and 3D-drawn landmarks for major cities.
