LG has announced their premium Android lineup for 2011 at MWC. Up for sale within the next couple of months: LG’s Optimus 3D smartphone, and the 8.9-inch Optimus Pad tablet. The Optimus 3D basically looks like your typical high-end, Android-powered, class-of-2011 smartphone, featuring a 4.3-inch screen, 1GHz dual core processor, and Android 2.2 (upgradeable to 2.3) operating system, but separates itself from the pack with dual 5MP cameras at the back. The dual cams are the big new thing on this device, allowing you to record 3D videos at up to 720p (or regular 2D clips with an HD 1080p resolution), while the screen allows for glasses-free 3D viewing.
LG’s 3D-capable, dual lens-equipped Optimus 3D is expected to be unveiled next week at MWC, but that didn’t stop this official ad from leaking a few days in advance. The 23-second clip (available after the break) shows the Optimus 3D’s different angles in all it’s non-rendered, non-imagined glory. Unfortunately, the artsy way it was all done doesn’t reveal much, so it’s pretty much another teaser. It doesn’t even show any of the OS or defined features, although you do get a quick look at the two camera lens at the back to highlight the 3D recording capabilities.
LG just released a teaser video for the Optimus 3D, which doesn’t reveal much except to confirm a dual core processor (confirming leaks that pointed to a Tegra 2 CPU—no surprise there) and that it should be officially unveiled during WMC. Video after the break, which you might want to check out if you’re into overhyped (and a little bit off… if not downright amusing) product clichés like “LG continues rewriting the history yet again,” and “something bigger is coming on your way.”
We’ve seen a lot of 3D devices, and we’ve certainly seen a lot of high-end Android phones last year. So how about a phone that packs its own 3D camera and 3D display? Apparently, LG’s been working on it, and they’ll be unveiling the Optimus 3D during the Mobile World Congress.
