If you’ve been wondering what Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich looks (and feels) like when it’s running on a tablet powered by NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor, then here’s a quick first look. NVIDIA has put out a demo video that shows off the high-end system’s goodies on the Asus Transformer Prime. Regrettably, the clip’s a bit too short for our liking, but it did cover the system’s abilities quite nicely, showing quick UI transitions, 1080p HD movie playback, and Riptide GP, a 3D game that makes full use of the system’s four cores. Video after the break.
While it’s not really that big a surprise anymore (Asus already mentioned that their upcoming Transformer Prime tablet will be running on it), at least it’s now official: NVIDIA has finally (and officially!) announced the Tegra 3, the quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor that was previously known as the Kal-El. Among its highlights, the new mobile chip promises to deliver “PC-class” performance to tablets and smartphones with three times the graphics performance of the dual-core Tegra 2, but uses up to %61 less power.
Nvidia just put out a preview of their upcoming quad core Kal-El chip’s capabilities at Computex with a video demo that looks as awesome as a Superman-named chip sounds. What’s in it? A demo of a game where you roll a glowing circus ball around. Yeah, definitely not as intriguing as “firing a bunch of teed-off birds at pigs,” but it’s not about the game. It’s about what the quad-core can do. And what exactly can it do? Dynamic lighting, realistic physics, and graphics that are “smooth as butter.” If you’re into mobile gaming, you’re definitely going to want to check out the demo video because if this is what’s going to power tablets by the end of the year, you’re going to want a new tablet.
Nvidia and YouTube has teamed up to put out a number of free 3D videos that you can view for free. While anyone can check out the 3D clips posted on YouTube, it’s not exactly for everyone, because you’re going to need to view them using Nvidia’s own 3D Vision kit to get the full effect. The effect being what Nvidia calls the best 3D videos available on YouTube.
Looking to upgrade to a gaming rig that’ll literally get you in the game? CyberPower just announced a new line of 3D Vision gaming systems built to support Nvidia’s 3D Vision tech—complete with fast-refresh monitors and 3D glasses—right from out of the box. It’s a pretty big box though; the systems come with 3D-ready 22-inch Samsung 2233RZ LCD displays, 3D Vision stereoscopic glasses, and a high-end spec that’s configured to power smooth, eye-popping 3D gaming performance.
