Months after Panasonic introduced the Lumix GF2—also known as the “world’s lightest interchangeable lens cam” (at least according to Panasonic at the time. This is their smallest Micro Four Thirds cam)—they finally announced prices and ship dates for the US. It’s about time! Seriously, the weight of our DSLR kits are killing our backs, making us wonder if we should bother packing them on our next vacation.
Panasonic has finally unveiled the Lumix GF2, a Micro Four Thirds cam that’s being touted to be the lightest and one of the smallest interchangeable lens cam in the world. That’s a pretty long line to remember it for, but with a 265 gram body that measures 32.8mm thick, it’s significantly more compact than the previous GF1.
Before anything else, let’s establish something: the retro-styled Olympus E-P2 that was first launched late last year already came in black, but the accessories usually came in silver. Let’s just say that the color combo just didn’t work, and it certainly spoiled the E-P2’s old school style. In case that was all that prevented you from picking up this Micro Four-Thirds cam—an awesome snapper to pack if you’re into more than just pointing-and-shooting, by the way—Olympus just announced a couple of all-black kits for the E-P2, which basically packs the cam along with matching black accessories.
In case you were looking for more details about the two non-compact, prosumer Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens cams that Panasonic rolled out last month, here you go: Scheduled to ship around late May, the 12.1-megapixel, HD-recording Lumix G2 that comes with a swing-out touchscreen will sell for $800.
