Thanks to a previous report, we already have a pretty good idea of what Apple’s up to by September or October. According to that rumor, Apple won’t be junking the 2-year-old iPhone 3GS, but will maintain it – along with the iPhone 4 – as budget and mid-range options for people who don’t want to spend for the all-new iPhone 5. So what’s new? Nothing, really. Just a new source that confirms what we heard from BGR last month.
They already came out with a $5,000 iPhone case mod that replaces the phone’s panels with 200-year old African wood, and followed it up with a $6,000 case mod that adds six mechanical clocks (by nothing less than “Swiss artists”) at the back. In terms of expensive iPhone mods, how else can you top that? Here’s your answer: Gresso will be releasing a modded iPhone 4 that tops out at $30,000, featuring pockets at the back that they simply filled with diamonds… or Swarovski crystals if you’re only willing to shell out $7,000.
Just want a new iPhone but you don’t really want to sign up for a new 2-year contract? Apple’s got you covered. They just started selling an unlocked, GSM version of the iPhone 4, in both black and white colors and both 16GB and 32GB versions. Both colors start out at $649 for the 16GB version and top out at $749 for the 32GB model, but you’re going to have to wait a bit longer for the white models to ship. The white iPhone 4 is listed to ship in 3-5 business days, while the black version ships in 1-3 days.
