Hitachi just introduced the Travelstar Z7K320, a 320GB mobile hard drive for notebooks that carves out its name not with capacity (which is pretty average), but with a really slim, 7mm profile that should help pave the way for even slimmer notebook designs.

Hitachi has just updated their line of 3.5-inch consumer-class CinemaStar hard drives with the 1TB, 7200rpm CinemaStar 7K1000.C and the 1TB 5K1000 CoolSpin. Based on 500GB-per-platter technology, both drives are designed to handle HD media streaming with advanced AV features, low temperatures and power consumption, and quiet operation.

Hitachi has just announced the Travelstar 7K500 series of 2.5-inch hard drives for fitting into notebooks. Available in capacities that range from 120GB to 500GB, the 7K500 series features a 7200rpm motor, a 16MB cache, and a SATA 3Gb/s interface for coming up with speeds of up to 1245Mb/s. The drives are also designed to run silently and to save on power, drawing only 1.8 Watts while active and 0.2W when idle.

After just about everyone else has come out with 2-Terabyte hard drives, Hitachi updates their Deskstar line with a new model that not only matches the storage ceiling of 2TBs, but also adds better performance with a 7200rpm motor. Tagged as the 2TB Desktar 7K2000, the new drive also adds energy efficiency to the mix with power saving tech.

After Hitachi Global Storage Technologies acquired external storage brand SimpleTech earlier this year, the company has adopted the technologies and applied them to a new line of consumer storage solutions. Three new products have just been launched under the new line, the SimpleTOUGH and SimpleDRIVE Mini Portable USB 2.0 drives, and the SimpleNET USB Drive network adapter.
