Western Digital has raised the ceiling on 2.5-inch notebook hard drives by releasing the 640GB Scorpio Blue. Previously capped at 500GB, the 640GB Scorpio Blue is one of the first 2.5-inch hard drives to be released. It sports a pair of 320GB platters and runs on 30% less power compared to previous Scorpio Blue drives. WD’s HD technologies come with the new drive, including WhisperDrive for silent operation, ShockGuard to protect the drive from bumps, and IntelliSeek technology for optimum seek speeds.

The 640GB Scorpio Blue is now shipping with an MSRP of $149.
