A guitar with no strings? Apparently, it’s possible. Stranger things have been invented, after all. But unlike the really simple, drunken-dude-idea that inspired the iBottleOpener, a lot of thought has been put into this one. That’s not to say that whoever thought of inventing a stringless guitar wasn’t spaced-out at the time, but the resulting product is nothing short of awesome. First seen way back in January, the Kitara by Masa Digital is now up for pre-orders.

Fender just gave out new details about the upcoming Squier by Stratocaster Guitar and Controller for Rock Band 3, which is an actual electric guitar that you can use both in-game and onstage. You probably already know about it if you’re a fan of the Rock Band franchise, but Fender just released the price and along with the rest of the guitar’s details. It’s going to cost $280, which might be a bit pricey for a game controller, but it’s a fair price considering that you also get a fully functional electric guitar. And if you’re just starting out, you can pair this guitar with the game’s Trainer Mode to learn the ropes.

Rock band type game for actual rockers: Seven45 Studios intros game with six string guitar   PowerGig SixString 2

This one’s for you, guitar-player-who-thinks-Rock-Band-is-for-sissies. Game developer Seven45 Studios will be releasing a new Rock Band-type rhythm game called Power Gig: Rise of the SixString for the PS3 and Xbox 360. What’s new? For starters, this game won’t be using fake four-buttoned guitar-looking controllers; your main controller will be a fully functional six-string electric axe that can also work on its own when plugged into an amp.
