If there’s anyone who’d know if Sony was indeed planning on putting out a PSP2, it would be the software devs who creates games for them. And wouldn’t you know it, a game developer—one of the biggest, no less—just acknowledged that they saw details of Sony’s upcoming handheld console.
Nintendo Japan has just released a special edition red version of the Wii console to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros franchise. It’s still basically the same old Wii, but bathed in what we can only assume to be the same shade of red on Mario’s plumber duds. Not much of a change, although the new red design is certainly a refreshing change. The traditional white frame was starting to get old.
Look out Sony and Nintendo (and maybe Apple… maybe), it looks like the handheld gaming race is going to get a little tighter. Panasonic is gearing up to join the fray with a new portable console called The Jungle that features a unique twist: massive multiplayer gaming. On a handheld device.
Amazon just put up Sony’s PlayStation Move for sale. It’s a bit earlier than expected, but since Sony did mention that it’ll “be available on September 19, though some retailers may have it in stock earlier,” then it’s all good. No gamer would mind, really. Anyway, the PlayStation Move kit basically lets you play Wii-style motion-controlled games on your PS3 console.
Because Sony has never confirmed (nor denied) their plans of coming out with a successor to the aging PSP handheld, rumors of a PSP2 are beginning to take on a sort of Big Foot or Nessie feel to it. There’s been a lot of rumors, but not much proof that it exists. Until now, after an exec from the developer of the upcoming Mortal Kombat game slipped out that they already have a PSP2 in house.
