The “retro look” doesn’t work on just anything. Case in point: big old boomboxes, bulky TV sets with channel dials, and your grandfather. However, they work really well on cameras. Case in point: a lot of advanced retro-styled cams have been turning out lately. Here’s another one: Fujifilm’s newly-launched FinePix X100, which rocks the classic metal-and-leather look and comes with enough manual controls to keep advanced shooters happy.
The 3D hype won’t end with video: apparently, Sony is gunning for a piece of the 3D pie that isn’t tied to an HDTV, PC, console, or home entertainment system. According to a dpreview interview with Masashi Imamura, the president of Sony’s Personal Imaging and Sound business group, they’re looking at expanding into consumer-class 3D imaging. That means 3D digital cameras for everyone (or at least everyone who’s potentially willing to spend for it) if Sony decides to follow through.
FujiFilm finally entered the tough world of, well, tough compact cams with the FinePix XP10. As the first along a new line of rugged compacts, FujiFilm designed the XP10 to be “Four-Proof,” to mean that this colorful compact is built to be waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof, and dustproof. We would have loved to call it “idiot-proof” as well, but to earn that label, a camera must still be able to shoot clear photos with an idiot’s finger over the lens.
