Well, that certainly didn’t take long. Just a week after Verizon launched the Droid X, and after the modding community reported that an integrated eFuse security chip might cause some problems with hacking, it’s over: the Droid X has been successfully rooted. Meaning, tech heads looking for a little more than the default apps can go ahead and buy a Droid X now.
Apparently, the iPhone 4 isn’t the only high ender with a major problem. A number of members have been reporting a number of bad Droid X screen-related issues on HowardForums. According to the reports, they’ve been experiencing banding (as shown on the video) and flickering on the Droid X’s otherwise awesome 4-inch screen.
During the Droid X’s launch day, people (hackers, mostly) raised a few concerns when they saw that the phone packed an eFuse chip. It’s basically a security chip that could brick the phone if it gets modified. It’s just something the hacking community is bound to do, for the same reasons some people (again, hackers) dedicate chunks of their lives trying to jailbreak the iPhone. The issue was just cleared when Motorola issued a statement that clears up the issue, which says that while it won’t brick the Droid X, it will lock it down if you load it with unapproved software. (Boo!)
Apparently, the Moto Droid X launch was a success. Or at least it looks that way. Depends on how you look at it though. There’s a new note on Verizon’s Droid X page that says “Due to high demand, this device will ship by June 23,” which obviously means they ran out of stock on the first day. This could be the effect of all the bad press surrounding the iPhone 4. Or it might just mean that they came up with a really low supply of Droid X units for launch day. We’ll know for sure when the official figures get announced, but if you’re looking to score a Droid X, it’s one more week of waiting for you.
If you’re a smartphone fan who didn’t get on the iPhone 4 train, you’re probably already aware that the Droid X is due out tomorrow. The Droid knows this. And he wants to see you tomorrow, all lined up at a Verizon outlet with $200 in your pocket. To get you ready, they released a “see you tomorrow” teaser that–at least to our opinion–has nothing to do with the Droid X. The trailer looks pretty awesome though, so it’s still worth a look.
