Unofficial Gingerbread update for Droid X and Droid 2, out now Droid x gingerbread

Itching to update your Droid X and Droid 2 phones to Android’s latest version? Of course you are. Verizon hasn’t released the official Gingerbread update for the two Droid models yet, and we have no idea when that update’s going to come, but if you don’t want to wait, the dev community just cooked up a customized Android 2.3 build that you can install right now.

Moto won’t support your Droid X’s leaked 2.2 update Droid X FroyoMoto just put out the word that if you use the leaked Android 2.2 upgrade on your Droid X, you could get stuck with the unofficial release, and you’re on your own. Meaning, there won’t be an upgrade path, so you won’t be able to get the official 2.2 patches. Not necessarily something new, although HTC did go unconventional earlier this month when they put out a special Android 2.2 update patch for those who used a leaked Android 2.2 on their EVO 4Gs.

Get your Droid X updated to (a leaked build of) Froyo early Droid X Froyo

Droid X users get an early peek into all the wonders of the Android 2.2 OS update early, as a leaked over-the-air upgrade found its way into, well, these guys’ hands. Lucky for you (provided that you’re a Droid X owner), they’re willing to share the Froyo love, which includes Google Voice Actions and support for the latest version of Flash. The update is a legit copy of the upgrade in an update.zip format and not a ROM or port conversion, so you won’t even have to root your phone if you don’t want to go to the more enlightened side of smartphone ownership.

Oh snap! Now Moto jabs at Apple’s iPhone 4 bumpers Droidx no jackets thWe all thought this was over after Apple took hits from just about every other big mobile brand then hit back with a demo page that shows that every one else has an antenna problem. Since Apple can’t change the way the iPhone 4 was designed, they then came out with the free bumper case program that hands out a free case to iPhone 4 owners as a solution. Apparently, “the solution” can still be tweaked to Motorola’s favor: they came out with a new ad (full image after the break) that shows the Droid X following a casual “no jacket required” dress code. Clever.

Now the Droid X is in it too: Apple adds Droid X antenna experiment Droid X death grip

This is still going on? We all thought Apple kind of made their point when they demonstrated that other phones (specifically, the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Droid Eris, and Samsung Omnia II) also suffered from the death grip, but apparently, there’s room for more when they added the Nokia N97 mini and now, the Droid X to the list. The video demo on Apple’s smartphone antenna performance page shows that even the great Droid X’s signal can be choked out if you hold it in that really awkward, I’m-determined-to-prove-a-point way.
