AOC just unveiled a new line of display that boasts of really slim, half-inch thick LCD displays. Tagged as the Razor LED, the new line of slim displays comes in four sizes that range from 18.5 to 23 inches, feature a wide 16:9 aspect ratio, and LED backlighting. The line also touts a high dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000,000:1 and a 5ms response time, which doesn’t necessarily make them high-end performers for people who need high-end displays, but they certainly make up for it in style.
Apple’s Retina Display has been described and reviewed as being all kinds of awesome. It’s a technical wonder, fitting all those pixels (326ppi) into a smartphone’s screen, but it might not be considered “the best” for long. Ortustech, a joint-venture between Casio and Toppan printing, has just unveiled the world’s smallest full HD display, fitting a 1920 x 1080 resolution into a 4.8-inch screen.
There hasn’t been much change in the plain world of digital photo frames lately, but this might shake up the market a bit. This 9-incher by Panasonic, called the MW-90, comes with the typical features you’d expect from a digital frame (photo, audio and video playback support and SD memory card slot) but comes with a potentially useful addition in the form of an iPhone dock for media playback and charging.
Apple finishes off its update day with a couple of new accessories: the 27-inch LED Cinema Display and a new input peripheral called the Magic Trackpad. Despite the mystical name, it’s simply an oversized touchpad that connects via Bluetooth. It acts and feels the same as a MacBook’s pad, but it’s 80% larger, giving your Mac desktop multitouch support. As an accessory for a MacBook, well, you get a larger area to do all your swiping with.
Remember the Sony Dash? The $200 tabletop do-it-all (almost-all, at least) with a 7-inch screen and a Wi-fi connection that was announced back in January? It’s about to get a pretty significant upgrade that should make that $200 price tag (for a digital clock-slash-media viewer-slash-internet viewer) a little bit more worth it. Sony has just announced that they’ll be adding a custom Netflix app to the Dash that’ll give it the ability to stream in TV shows and movies via a Wi-fi connection. The video streaming app will come at no extra cost (thankfully keeping the price at $200) and should be available when the Dash goes on store shelves this April.
