Altec Lansing’s new Octiv Mini isn’t the most advanced iPhone speaker-dock out there, but it’s relatively affordable, which makes it good enough for us and every other Average Joe who happens to have an iPhone. Regular charge and audio playing is a given on the compact Octiv Mini, but Altec Lansing also offers a free Alarm Rock app to go with it, adding a handy alarm clock function to the device without having to add any more built-in tech that you’re going to have to pay for. The design’s pretty original too—a nice little bonus if you’re into tweaked geometric shapes.
Sony’s new clock radio, the ICF-C717PJ, offers a standard feature set with AM/FM tuning and alarm clock functions, making it perfect for the bedside. It also adds something that makes it a bit more unique: a projector that allows it to show the time on a wall or the ceiling so you can check the time without having to actually look at the clock.

It looks like a flute, but it’s essentially a stylized alarm clock with a bit more tech packed into it. The BeoTime does more than just beep to wake you up–this device connects to other Bang & Olufsen units, such as radios or TVs, so you can sleep with the TV on or wake up to the sound of the morning news.
