AMD intros sub $100 quad core CPU for mainstream desktops   AMD Athlon II X4

AMD has just announced two new quad-core 45nm Athlon II X4 processors, the sub-$100 Athlon X4 620, and the X4 630.The new processors form a part of an affordable mainstream desktop platform that also includes AMD’s 785G chipset that comes with ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics for powering HD video playback on Windows 7.

The X4 620 is a 2.6GHz processor, while the X4 630 features a faster 2.8GHz clock. Both CPUs come with a 2MB L2 cache and support for DDR2 and DDR3 memory. Aside from the X4 620 apparently targeting a below-$100 price point, further pricing and availability info isn’t available yet.

AMD releases WHQL Win7 drivers for ATI Radeon graphics   ati catalystlogo

AMD has just announced that they’ve released their first WHQL-certified ATI Catalyst graphics drivers for Windows 7. The newest version (Catalyst 9.7) promises better stability and compatibility for AMD platforms running Windows 7 (and Vista), as well as full support for the Win7 desktop interface’s effects. It also promises performance improvements for gamers playing on Win7 compared to Vista in both single card and multi-GPU configurations, and it makes sure that the new OS supports  ATI’s video technologies such as ATI Stream.

Patriot launches DDR3 G Series memory for AMD’s Dragon platform   Patriot G Series

Patriot Memory has announced that they’ll be coming out with a new line of performance DDR3 memory specifically designed to run on AMD’s Dragon platform. Branded as the G Series (for “Gamer”), the new line of memory modules target gamers and enthusiasts who need the stability for running systems based on AMD’s overclocker-friendly Black Edition processors.
