The PM 300 can also print straight from a source without having to go through a computer with direct printing sources that include built-in card slots, a USB port, the PictBridge interface (for printing from compatible mobile devices), or an optional Bluetooth adapter.

The LCD screen is a 7-inch wide (16:9) panel that supports an 800 x 480 resolution. It also comes with 12 different slideshow formats that can be set and moved through using a packaged remote.

The PictureMate Show is now available for $300.

Epson has just introduced two new photo all-in-ones, the Artisan 810 and Artisan 710. Both all-in-ones feature fast, premium-quality photo prints, built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, wireless printing from an Apple iPhone, and a number of other useful applications.

The Artisan 710 and 810 also offer full-featured scanning and copying, standalone printing capabilities for printing without a computer, automatic double-sided printing to save on paper, and an Automatic Photo Correction feature that improves poorly exposed images. Aside from being able to connect to an iPhone, an easily accessible USB port is also available for connecting and charging portable devices such as mobile phones and MP3 players.

The flagship Artisan 810 adds a color fax and automated document feeder, a 7.8-inch smart touch panel, and a large 3.5-inch color LCD that lights up only the buttons needed, while the Artisan 710 has a more conventional control panel with a smaller 2.5-inch LCD.

The Artisan 810 is priced at $300, while the more basic 710 retails for $180. Both all-in-ones are are currently available.

Nobody really wants to spend on a printer these days, unless they’re photography and graphics enthusiasts. Canon probably realizes this, because the company has released two Pixma all-in-one printers and one Selphy compact photo printer at prices that won’t break the bank.

The Pixma MP560 wireless photo all-in-one printer (shown above) has auto duplex printing and Wi-Fi capability. It will print out pictures directly from your USB flash drive, and lets you preview pictures on its 2-inch LCD screen with an integrated scroll wheel. Rated print speeds are 6.0ipm (impressions per minute) for letter-sized color documents and 9.2ipm for black-and-white ones. This model is also Canon’s most compact inkjet printer, and it retails for only $150.

The Pixma MP490 all-in-one photo printer is a much simpler version of the MP560. It’s a no-frills machine that can print, scan and copy, and features a 1.8-inch LCD screen. It prints colored, letter-sized documents at 4.8ipm, and black-and-white pages at 8.4ipm. It’ll only set you back $100.

The portable Selphy CP790 compact photo printer looks like a bucket, with its storage basket that holds ink cartridges, AC adapter, cable and paper. The 3-inch LCD screen lets you do minor photo editing right on the printer, and it prints a 4 x 6-inch photo in around 43 seconds. Optional features include memory card slots and a battery pack for truly portable printing. Unit price is $179.995.

The 4.33-inch touchscreen sits right on top of its front panel, which displays an array of customizable apps. The direct connection to the Web will let you download and install the apps you want, and print content straight off the Web. HP has initially partnered up with Google, USA Today, Weathernews.com, Fandango, Nickelodeon, Web Sudoku, Coupons.com and Dreamworks. You will also be able to start sharing apps with other through the HP Apps Studio, which will be live by late 2009. The printer also provides access to Snapfish and the HP Creative Studio for direct photo printing as well.

This all-in-one can print, scan, copy and fax, and comes with complete connectivity options – Bluetooth, LAN and Wi-Fi. The Photosmart Premium with TouchSmart Web should be out by fall with a $399 price tag.

The 3210 and 3220 each have a 1200 x 1200dpi (dots per inch) resolution, and can print at speeds of 24ppm (pages per minute) for the 3210 and 30ppm for the 3220. These can scan or print directly from USB drives, and do automatic two-sided printing plus other advanced functions such as fax forward to e-mail. Each can hold up to 500 sheets of paper. Both models are available now through Xerox channels and Xerox Direct.

The ColorQube 9200 multifunction printer series uses ink sticks similar to crayons that slip into the machine easily and are non-toxic. The solid ink eliminates the need for cartridges, lessening waste and the effects of manufacturing and transportation on the environment. The ColorQube printers also make use of Xerox’s Hybrid Color Plans, which only charges you for the amount of color you use on a given page. Each batch of solid ink can provide up to 55,500 pages of prints, and the printers use four print heads that can produce print speeds that go anywhere from 38ppm (pages per minute) to 85ppm.

Made for corporate use, the ColorQube 9200 series consists of three models with different color speeds. Each has a colored touch screen, a power-saving mode, color matching, finishing and color correction features, data encryption and the Xerox Extensible Interface for customized workflow applications. Pricing starts at $23,500.

This basic machine has a native resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi with rated print speeds pegged at up to 35 ppm (pages per minute) for letter-sized documents and up to 33 ppm for A4 prints. It features an automatic duplexer for two-sided printing, a 250-sheet paper drawer and 1-sheet multipurpose tray. Duty cycle is up to 35,000 pages per month. Price starts at $199.

Dell

The SCX-5835FN (pictured above) is a high-speed unit that can scan print, scan, copy and fax. It’s built for workgroups and is therefore network-ready. Scanned documents can go straight to e-mail, a USB drive, or a network. Security options are aplenty also – this multifunction printer can be set to only do jobs when a password is entered. The SCX-5835FN has a 35 ppm (pages per minute) print speed and a 1200 x 1200 dpi output resolution. It comes with a 7-inch monochrome touchscreen, an 80GB hard drive with document management features, a 1,050-sheet paper tray, and a built-in 50-page duplexer for double-sided printing with an automatic document feeder. As for the price, it’ll set you back $1,099.

HP’s latest crop of Officejet printers consists of the Officejet Pro 8500 all-in-one series, the Officejet Pro 8000 printer series, and the Officejet 6500 all-in-one series. The Officejet Pro 8500 inkjet all-in-one series (pictured above) consumes about 50% less power than color laser all-in-ones, has two-sided printing and uses individual ink cartridges – all of which help keep overall costs down. Rated speeds are 15 ppm (pages per minute) when it prints in black and 11 ppm in color, but HP claims that these can go up to a maximum rated speed of up to 35 ppm in black and 34 ppm in color. The 8500 series can scan, copy, and fax too. An optional 250-sheet paper tray will also be availanle for this series. Prices will go from $299 to $499.

All models have wired Ethernet and each series’ higher end models can print wirelessly. They also come with automatic document feeders.

Canon’s newest compact photo printer promises better image quality and faster print speeds—a welcome improvement over its predecessor, the CP760. Available in three body color variants (silver. blue and pink), the new compact comes with enhancements such as Portrait Image Optimization and Face Detection for adjusting the brightness and color corrections for people-shots.

The SELPHY CP780 comes with a 2.5-inch LCD screen for printing on-the-go, a rearranged button layout to keep things simple, and a revised printing process that lets it churn out a 4×6 photo in around 47 seconds. The kit also sports card slots and a USB interface for printing straight from a camera.

The SELPHY CP780 sells for $99.99, and comes with options for an extra $79 battery pack and a $49.99 Bluetooth adaptor.
