Dell just posted a teaser video of their upcoming Inspiron Duo, which is basically a Windows 7-based tablet that converts into a netbook. The screen features a unique hinge for transforming from tablet into its netbook though. Unlike the classic twisting joints typically used by tablet PCs, the Inspiron Duo’s screen rotates (or ‘flips’) vertically from the frame. It certainly looks like a pretty cool way to go about it (check out the video), but behind all the flash, you still get your typical Windows tablet/netbook’s spec and performance. Probably not a bad thing if that’s what you’re looking for, but it could come at a significantly higher price compared to your typical ultraportable.
The Acer Aspire One D255, one of the first netbooks to rock Intel’s new 1.5GHz Atom N550 dual core processor, has been officially launched in the US. What’s new besides the dual core chip? Not much; it’s still technically a netbook, but the dual core processor does help speed it along, providing for a significant performance boost over older single core models.
A netbook that can boot either Windows or Android? Not a bad idea. Acer unveiled a new 10-inch netbook called the Aspire One AOD255 that comes loaded with both Windows and Android operating system, offering quick access to basic functions like e-mail and web browsing under Android, while still offering the full PC functionality from Windows XP. The dual-boot system features Acer’s Configuration Manager for Android that’ll let you choose which operating is loaded when you start it up.
MSI just announced a new partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where MSI gets to slap on the Dodgers logo on the Wind Top AE2220 all-in-one desktop and on the 10-inch Wind U135DX netbook. The LA Dodgers will get their entire IT system updated with MSI systems, including Wind Tops for the Dodger Stadium front office. (But who are we kidding? No one outside of the Dodger’s payroll really cares about that part of the announcement.)
Asus just came out with the Eee PC 1215N, a netbook that breaks out of the usual low-performance, low-end mold by packing in a dual core processor and discrete graphics by Nvidia. The dual core processor comes in the form of Intel’s new D525 Atom though, so technically, this 12-incher is still a netbook.
