If you’ve been following the budding smartwatch trend, then you’re probably already aware of the Pebble smartwatch project on Kickstarter. It’s pretty hard to miss, not after hitting $1 million from backers after a day. Well, they just hit $3 million over the weekend (actually, they just topped $4m with 30 days to go) so they decided to upgrade the package with waterproofing so your investment comes with a bit more protection.
If you don’t own a smartwatch (yet)… then you’ve probably decided that you don’t really need one. But if you’re kind of looking into it thanks to the recent crop of new options, well here’s another one. Sony’s MW2 SmartWatch is now up for pre-order on their US online store for $149. If you have no idea what a “smartwatch” is, it’s basically a wristwatch with a digital screen and Bluetooth connection. Paired you’re your smartphone, the watch will let you check messages and emails, as well as social network updates and alerts without having to pull your phone out of your pocket or bag.
Looking to pimp your “old” iPad 2 with a keyboard case, Asus Transformer-style? This one looks like a beauty. Or it is for Apple fans, at least. But since you’re rocking an iPad 2, then we’re assuming you are. Anyway, it’s a pretty simple kit: a keyboard case that’s designed to make your iPad look like a mini-MacBook Pro, thanks to a chiclet-style keyboard and brushed aluminum panels (it’s actually silicone that’s painted to match Apple’s aluminum exteriors, but that really shouldn’t be that big a deal, right?)
Protective cases for today’s modern toys are pretty common, ranging from cheap plasticky covers to fuzzy silicone-y bumpers, with just about every color and design possible. Unfortunately, designs made for more refined tastes are pretty rare. If you’re looking for a protective sleeve for your laptop, iPad or iPhone that looks good enough to match your leather shoes and tailored suit, here’s an option. Falcon Gray has put out a line of protective cases made out of high-quality leather, specifically designed not just to protect your laptop or iDevice, they look good too. Okay, we know that looks are a matter of opinion, but seriously, people with taste just can’t go wrong with hand-stitched, handcrafted leather. It certainly looks better compared to cheap, generic rubber bumpers. (more…)
Never mind the improvements on battery life; for some people, the integrated batteries on their iPhone will just never be enough. Not when you’re hooked on texting, face-timing, or flinging pissed-off birds at green pig heads all day. To address this problem, a lot of accessory makers have come out with external battery accessories that can give you more juice on-the-go – or, if you’re not into lugging an extra accessory, an iPhone case (like Mophie’s Juice Packs) that features its own battery so you can double your mobile play-time. Surprisingly, no one has thought of this yet: the Juice Tank is an iPhone (4/4S) case that comes with its own wall charger.
