Lingual tweak for iPhone will let Siri translate 35 languages [update: its now available]   lingual screenshot

Despite her many talents (yes, we’re going to refer to the digital assistant feature as a “her”), Siri is admittedly a little limited in terms of what you can actually ask of her. But ever since the A5 jailbreak was released to the public, we all knew that it wouldn’t take long for the dev community to tinker with iOS’s most popular feature. Just recently, a free new tweak has been made available on Cydia called AssistantExtensions, which enables Siri to do a little more for you, like open apps, send tweets and switch SBSettings toggles. One more thing it can do is support plugins that lets you add even more functions that other devs come up with.

Lingual is one of those awesome ideas we all wished Siri could do right from the box. Packaged as a plugin for AssistantExtensions, Lingual will let you dictate a word or phrase, then ask Siri to give you a translation in any one of 35 supported languages. (more…)

Absinthe untethered jailbreak for A5 devices on iOS 5, now available for Mac and Windows   iPhone 4S Absinthe jailbreakHot news just arrived over the weekend for people rocking Apple’s A5 devices: the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices – or the jailbreak for iOS 5 that excluded users of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S when it was released for A4 devices back in late-December – is out now. Called Absinthe (from the people behind the original GreenPois0n tool), this tool makes for one of the simplest jailbreaking methods since JailbreakMe’s quick slide-to-jailbreak method.

Shortly after finding the exploit used for the untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak for A4 devices, Pod2g announced that he was going to be moving on to A5 devices (the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S). Evidently, he was successful. Pod2gg has just posted a video of an untethered iPhone 4S jailbreak, running iOS 5.0.1 on his blog, showing Apple’s latest loaded with Cydia – and working perfectly.

Everyone rocking an iPhone 4, iPad (1), or iPod touch running on a stock version of iOS 5.0.1 – as well as everyone else still slumming it on iOS 4.3 because they can’t bear an un-JB’d mobile – rejoice! Thanks to the efforts of pod2g, the dev who found the necessary crack in the iOS armor, and the Chronic Dev Team, we’ve got this: a fully functional untethered jailbreak for A4 devices running iOS 5.0.1.
