Lingual tweak for iPhone will let Siri translate 35 languages [update: its now available] lingual screenshot

Despite her many talents (yes, we’re going to refer to the digital assistant feature as a “her”), Siri is admittedly a little limited in terms of what you can actually ask of her. But ever since the A5 jailbreak was released to the public, we all knew that it wouldn’t take long for the dev community to tinker with iOS’s most popular feature. Just recently, a free new tweak has been made available on Cydia called AssistantExtensions, which enables Siri to do a little more for you, like open apps, send tweets and switch SBSettings toggles. One more thing it can do is support plugins that lets you add even more functions that other devs come up with.

Lingual is one of those awesome ideas we all wished Siri could do right from the box. Packaged as a plugin for AssistantExtensions, Lingual will let you dictate a word or phrase, then ask Siri to give you a translation in any one of 35 supported languages. (more…)

Two more “Apple fanboys are silly” themed ads from Samsung Samsung Galaxy S II ad screenshot

If you genuinely laughed at Samsung’s first “next big thing” ad, and snickered at how Samsung kind of forgot all about Siri in their Voice Actions ad, then you might want to check out two more Samsung ads that rags on Apple fans. These two ads (available after the break) basically follow the same theme, showing excited Apple fans lining up and camping (or preparing to line up and camp) outside an Apple store getting “Samsunged” by Galaxy S II owners. We have no idea what getting “Samsunged” actually means or how Apple fans are supposed to be swayed by the ads, but they’re still fun to watch. One ad touts the S II’s turn-by-turn navigation feature, while the other shows off the phone’s 4G support.

True Knowledge outs Evi app for iOS and Android: it’s like Siri if she wasn’t tied to the iPhone 4S Evi icon

True Knowledge has just put out a new voice command app called Evi that can process voice-based queries. Basically, you can easily think of it as a Siri clone that can perform most of Siri’s typical tasks, but has the potential to be bigger (and maybe even better). How so? First of all, it’s a third-party app that won’t be limited to the iPhone 4S. Available on the App Store for 99 cents and free (as a beta) on the Android Market, Evi is simply more flexible as an option for non-iPhone 4S owners.

Absinthe untethered jailbreak for A5 devices on iOS 5, now available for Mac and Windows iPhone 4S Absinthe jailbreakHot news just arrived over the weekend for people rocking Apple’s A5 devices: the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices – or the jailbreak for iOS 5 that excluded users of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S when it was released for A4 devices back in late-December – is out now. Called Absinthe (from the people behind the original GreenPois0n tool), this tool makes for one of the simplest jailbreaking methods since JailbreakMe’s quick slide-to-jailbreak method.
