This one’s for you, guitar-player-who-thinks-Rock-Band-is-for-sissies. Game developer Seven45 Studios will be releasing a new Rock Band-type rhythm game called Power Gig: Rise of the SixString for the PS3 and Xbox 360. What’s new? For starters, this game won’t be using fake four-buttoned guitar-looking controllers; your main controller will be a fully functional six-string electric axe that can also work on its own when plugged into an amp.
Sony will be releasing a new accessory for the PlayStation 3 that’ll let you view and record digital TV programs onto a hard drive. Already made famous for packing a full-featured Blu-ray drive (as well as being an awesome gaming console overall), this new accessory gives the console even greater home entertainment potential.
Sony’s PlayStation Digital Comics service is now live across different markets. The new service lets users download digital issues of comic books for reading on a PSP using a free Digital Comics Reader.
Nintendo will release two new colored Wii Remotes as separate accessories. Available in pink and blue (aside from the already existing black and white Remotes), the two new colors will both come with their own protective jackets and MotionPlus add-on that offer better precision for games such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, EA Sports’ Grand Slam Tennis, and Nintendo’s own Wii Sports Resort.
The new controllers are set to launch in February, 2010.
Gaming accessory provider Mad Catz has introduced a wireless gaming adapter for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles that lets the consoles connect to the net via a wireless 802.11n connection. Compatible with standard routers and access points, the adapter is easily configured through a PC, after which it’s ready to be used on a console. It’s not really a new technology, and it’s in no way groundbreaking, but it’s at least cheaper compared to Microsoft’s Xbox adapter (the PS3 compatibility makes it more flexible too).
Sony has just launched a Playstation 3 model with a massive 250GB internal drive in North America. Coming with more than double the previous version’s 120GB storage cap, the extra storage should prove useful for storing downloadable games and movies from the Playstation Network. Set to hit the shelves by November 3rd, the 250GB PS3 will feature the new PS3 slim body, as well as the same package as the 120GB slim PS3 for $349.
Nintendo is planning to give the Wii an online video streaming service soon, according to a regional publication. With the service already lined up to launch in Japan by November, an expansion that includes North America and South Korea could begin sometime next year.
The service could help it compete with the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Marketplace, but like Nintendo’s games, expect to see more kid-friendly content. It falls short on native high-end multimedia playback though, but word is out that Nintendo is planning to release an HD-capable Wii in 2011.
Spawn Labs has released a new way for gamers to play on any console from another room or on the road. The concept is centered around a small box called the Spawn HD-720 that connects between the internet or home network (via a router) and a game console.
Microsoft has announced significant price cuts on their Xbox 360 game consoles to clear stock and to compete with Sony’s new slim PS3. The announcement drops the top-tiered Xbox 360 Elite’s price down to $300. The 60GB Xbox 360 Pro’s price has also dropped down to $250, while the Arcade model’s price will be maintained at $200.
