Iomega intros 4-drive StorCenter multifunction NAS
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Storage company Iomega has released the StorCenter Pro ix4-200d, a network-attached storage (NAS) device that can pack in up to four SATA hard drives to the small office or home network. Available in 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities, the StorCenter Pro i4x-200d connects to the network via dual gigabit Ethernet ports, and an LCD screen up front that provides quick info on the drives’ status.
The ix4-200d offers easy file sharing, iSCSI block access and multiple RAID configurations for protection, and can also function as a print server and disaster recovery device for businesses. Backups are also a must, and this drive supports Apple’s Time Machine feature, and comes with a built-in uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that can do safe, automated shutdowns when the power suddenly goes out.
For home users, the NAS device can also function as a UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) AV Media Server for streaming photos, audio and video to connected PCs and network-attached devices. It also supports the DLNA standard for connecting to other DLNA media players such as an Xbox 360 or PS3. It can also download Torrent files on its own, and supports Bluetooth uploads. Three USB ports allow for adding network printers, or even more storage.
Available now, the 2TB model sells for $700, 4TB for $900, and the 8TB model costs $1,900.

This may not be that much of a big deal to the average Joe, but to those road warriors and cubicle slaves whose financial and professional fates hinge on the results of a PowerPoint presentation, we have two things we want to say to you: first, good luck. Second, Logitech just released a pair of devices just for you. No, they won’t really spice up a boring presentation or help you make that sale (unless you’re selling wireless PowerPoint presenters, in which case, these babies sell themselves), but they’re designed to make your job easier.
