If you’ve been following the constant barrage of Apple-related rumors for the past couple of months, you likely heard about the one that mentioned Apple holding an iPhone event on September 12. Well, that report turned out to be spot-on. Apple has officially ended the speculation – or at least the speculation about the event date – and handed out invitations for a press event on September 12th at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. While the invite didn’t mention specific products, a closer look at the image should be more than enough. Spoiler: In case you didn’t catch it, the shadow under the “12” forms a “5”. So yeah, it’s going to be an iPhone event, and it’s likely going to be called the iPhone 5.
While a new iPhone is sure to go onstage, it still isn’t clear if the event will include other product introductions. A number of previous reports mention Apple working on a smaller, 7- or 8-inch iPad that would go up against Amazon’s Kindle and Google’s Nexus 7, and we’re still waiting for the company to refresh their line of iPods for 2012.
The iPhone 5 is expected to be a new design, featuring a 4-inch screen, a new dock interface, and possibly LTE 4G. A recent sighting also revealed a redesigned pair of earphones that could debut with the phone.
