We’ve seen the Samsung Galaxy S III released in a number of rather unconventional colors, from the stock blue and white variants they originally unveiled, to the striking Garnet Red variant that AT&T exclusively started offering. Despite being one of the best (if not the best) Android-based smartphones available right now, the Galaxy S III might not be on your shopping list if you prefer your phone in basic black (or gray). At least until Samsung releases this: reports of a black version of the phone have started popping up in leaks, pointing to a likely announcement soon.
The first sighting came from Samsung’s own Facebook page last week, where a black Galaxy S III phone (it’s either a black phone or a horribly discolored photo of the blue one) was shown in an Olympic-themed album. The photo captions didn’t address the fact that it shows a previously-unseen color option though, but a number of commenters did point it out. Despite the sighting, Samsung didn’t comment.
A more recent report might make for more solid evidence though. An inventory screen from retailer Carphone Warehouse shows an entry for a Samsung Galaxy S3 Black, along with the regular Blue and White options. It’s still unofficial, but it looks like a sure thing. And since it has apparently made it to a retailer’s list, it looks ready for a release pretty soon.
