Tech for Less: Ematic’s 7 inch EGL25BL tablet runs on Android 4.0, sells for $80 Ematic EGL25BLIf you’re shopping for a cheap Android 4.0 tablet and you were wondering exactly how low you could go, we may have found a winner. Ematic – one of those companies known mostly for putting out really affordable electronics – has put out the EGL25BL, a 7-inch Android-4.0 based tablet that only costs $79.99.

At this price, you really shouldn’t expect a top-end spec. The tablet runs on a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, and features a resistive touch screen, Wi-fi connectivity, and 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded with a microSD card slot. The product page doesn’t specify the screen resolution, but since this is an $80 tablet, it should be pretty safe to say that we don’t expect it to rock a 720p screen. It does feature an HDMI out port for playback on an HDTV though.

Other features include a voice recorder, Kobo’s ebook reader app, an office suite for viewing DOC, PDF, PPT and XLS files, and access to the Ematic App Shop for downloading more apps.

Probably not something you’d want to use for running the latest and greatest Android apps and games, but if you’re looking for something like a secondary slate that can play music while you browse the Web or read an ebook – or something the kids can use for school – 80 bucks doesn’t sound like a bad deal.

The EGL25BL also comes with 5GB of additional cloud storage, and an offer for 20 free MP3 songs from eMusic. It’s currently available from Walmart.
