A new desktop monitor might not be the most interesting thing on your electronics wish list right now, but this might change things a bit. LG has introduced two new HD monitors under their premium IPS7 series, with a 27-incher and 23-incher both featuring “an almost invisible” bezel, IPS panels with a full 1080p HD resolution, and support for mobile high-definition link, or “MHL”.
The MHL interface is certainly something new, allowing users to hook up and play photos and videos from a number of MHL-supporting smartphones and tablets via an HDMI port. MHL is an improvement over HDMI though, thanks to an extra feature that allows this monitor to actually charge connected mobile devices while playing content. The “almost invisible” part is a frame that measures only 1.2mm, which would be pretty good for use on multi-monitor setups.
The IPS7 series also boasts of accurate color reproduction, and features calibration software for professionals.
Pricing and availability wasn’t announced, but the IPS7 series will be out first in South Korea and China, followed by an international roll-out.
