If you happen to be an adrenaline junkie who’s looking for a wearable cam that can record your next feat, you’ve got a number of options – mainly from GoPro and Contour. JVC’s just about to join the mix in a couple of months with the Adixxion GC-XA1, a compact “action cam” that features rugged protection and a built-in Wi-fi connection out of the box.
With a shell that’s dustproof, freeze-proof, waterproof to a depth of 16 feet, and shockproof for surviving a 6.5-foot drop, the Adixxion should be good to go with you on your next adventure as soon as you open the box. The built-in wireless connection also allows it to hook up with a smartphone (it works with a free Android or iOS app) for monitoring the action when it’s mounted on a helmet, sending recorded media to a remote PC, or streaming live feeds to USTREAM without needing a computer. File transfers should also be quicker with the faster connection.
Both features give it a leg up on the competition, with other action cams usually needing a separate kit for protection and wireless connectivity.
The Adixxion also features a 1.5-inch LCD monitor, an ultra-wide lens and image stabilizing tech (for recording action sequences that won’t make you want to hurl during playback), and is capable of recording MP4 videos in full HD 1920 x 1080/30p or 1280 x 720/60p and 5MP stills. Other features include a digital 5x zoom, time lapse recording and auto-timer functions, and manual exposure and white balance settings.
The Adixxion will be out in late summer for $350, and will be bundled with a goggle mount, flexible mount, a pair of lens covers, a USB cable and battery (other accessories and mounts will be sold separately).
