Remember all the teasers that Nokia US put out on their Facebook page that all refer to the PureView 808 and today’s date, specifically? Well today definitely arrived. As well as word that the 808 PureView will land in the US… a fact that we were pretty much aware of since last month. The 808 PureView itself? Still no date of arrival. So what actually happened today? Evidently, nothing much. Just an announcement that Nokia’s 41-megapixel camera-rocking will officially arrive in the US. To make it officially official, they also put up a product page on the Nokia US site.
According to the details on the site, the US version will be identical to the international version. As such, it’s still going to run on Symbian, which means that all the people (a handful, probably) who hoped that it’s going to be tweaked to run on Windows Phone just got let down. That doesn’t mean that Nokia isn’t working on such a thing though, although it’s unlikely to pack the same 41-megapixel sensor to make it affordable.
Unfortunately, for all the teasing that Nokia did recently, they didn’t release the details we’re looking for. No prices, no launch dates, no word on carriers (it’s expected to be sold unsubsidized and unlocked, though).
