Looking for a portable set of speakers that offer wireless hookups and a built-in battery? Braven has just started shipping their Six Series speakers, offering exactly that and more. First unveiled back in April, the Six Series includes three models that all feature a Bluetooth connection that will let you stream audio from a BT-enabled player, as well as a built-in microphone that allows it to work as a mobile speakerphone, as well as a USB port that can charge your porta-player with power from its built-in rechargeable battery.
The three models basically pack in the same features (Bluetooth connection, USB port, built-in microphone, rechargeable battery) and a pair of extended-range drivers that each pump out 3 watts of power. If a pair of 3W speakers doesn’t sound like much, all three models can also be daisy-chained with other Braven Six Series speakers or connected to a bigger set of speakers via a 3.5mm jack.
The difference between the models mainly involve the external case and the built-in battery’s capacity: the line starts with the $150 Braven 600 that features a 12-hour battery and aluminum case, while the top-end Braven 650 offers upscale audio quality with APTX audiotech and a 20-hour battery for $189. The mid-tier Braven 625s is your best option if you plan on taking your tunes outdoors though. This one features a 16-hour battery enclosed in a rugged rubber-lined case and comes with a waterproof bag.
In any case, any of the three should be travel friendly, thanks to compact frames that measure only six inches long. While not necessarily cheap, they do offer decent bang for the buck with all the features under $200. All three are available now from Braven.com.
