When you think of supercar-maker Lamborghini, you’re bound to think of luxury supercars with gorgeous designs and cutting-edge performance. Well, they just launched a handful of mobile phones along with a tablet – for the Russian market, at least – and while none of them look set to conquer speed records with cutting-edge performance, they sure got the “luxury” part down pat. Mostly thanks to exterior bits covered with gold and leather.
First up is the TL688 Spyder, a feature (non-smart) phone that’s shaped like a TV clicker with a tapered bottom. Not much tech to brag about here – it only comes with a 2-inch display, 3-megapixel camera, front camera, 4GB of internal memory and GPRS/EDGE connectivity – but it does look good if you like stuff blatantly covered in gold up front and a crocodile leather back.
The TL820 Spyder 2 basically shares the same design cues – gold-plated front, leather back, and tapered design – but with a slightly updated spec. The key word here is “slightly” since it’s still basically a feature phone. One that sports a larger 2.4-inch display, a five-megapixel camera and VGA front cam. Internal memory is limited to 1GB, but a card slot allows for expansion up to 16GB.
The TL700 is a proper smartphone, although the spec looks a bit dated. It’s listed with a 3.7-inch, 800 x 480 touchscreen, and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread (Gingerbread!) and a Qualcomm processor. Dual cameras are on tap with a 5MP snapper, as well as 4GB of internal storage and a 1,400mAh battery. Like the two feature phones, the TL700 also rocks a gold-plated body with crocodile skin accents at the back.
The L2800 is a 9.7-inch tablet that runs on Android 2.3. Features include a 9.7-inch, 1024 x 768 display, a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Details about the exterior weren’t given out, but the photos show an exterior protected by what looks like carbon fiber, along with an angular design that shares design cues with Lamborghini’s cars.
The spec is a bit short on tech — a far cry from the Lamborghini-branded performance laptops built by Asus — but the price has been predictably pushed up by the materials used. The TL688 Spyder costs around $1,800 to $2,100 (converted), and the TL820 Spyder 2 costs $2,430. The TL700 smartphone costs $2,740, while the L2800 tablet is priced at $2,280.
