While this seemingly plain white coffee mug isn’t something you’d relate to “high-tech”, it obviously speaks to gadget geeks. Or at least gadget geeks with good taste. Mostly because the battery indicator graphic on its side makes it geeky, but without crossing the line towards fanboy-level tackiness. (My apologies to Star Wars geeks the world over, but I’m not taking that mug anywhere outside a Star Wars convention.) The battery graphic alone isn’t what makes it a tech-geek’s must-have though; it’s the fact that it actually works – showing a full charge when the cup’s filled, and an empty battery level when it’s time to brew another cup of Joe.
It’s a pretty simple concept that should be familiar to everyone who’s ever seen a Hot Wheels Color Shifter toy. Printed in thermographic ink, the battery on the side fills up when it’s filled with hot water, and bottoms out when you’ve drained it. Just a few niggles on this one: it will only react to hot water. Unlike those Hot Wheels toys, it won’t react to cold water, and the “charge” will fade when your drink cools down.
Still pretty cool though, and something I wouldn’t mind springing for… once it becomes available. Check Firebox for availability.
