If you don’t own a smartwatch (yet)… then you’ve probably decided that you don’t really need one. But if you’re kind of looking into it thanks to the recent crop of new options, well here’s another one. Sony’s MW2 SmartWatch is now up for pre-order on their US online store for $149. If you have no idea what a “smartwatch” is, it’s basically a wristwatch with a digital screen and Bluetooth connection. Paired you’re your smartphone, the watch will let you check messages and emails, as well as social network updates and alerts without having to pull your phone out of your pocket or bag.
Sony’s MW2 pretty much does the same thing as any other smartwatch in that regard. This one’s specifically limited to hook up with Android smartphones though (ones running on Android 2.1 and higher), and won’t support iOS. For Android users, it certainly looks solid. For $149, you get a nicely-designed accessory that sports a 1.3-inch OLED touchscreen display with a 128 x 128 resolution and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. Oh, it also tells time, and comes packed inside a dust-proof, splash-proof aluminum case.
Paired with an Android device, the watch will let you check on the mentioned updates and alerts, as well as control music playback. Sony also offers other apps for it via Google Play, and lists a 14-day standby time with everyday use.
The $149 watch will include a black strap, but you can pick up extra colored straps for $19.99.
