Is Samsung working on an Android-powered digital camera? It sure looks like it. Samsung has filed for a trademark on the “Galaxy Camera” name with the USPTO under “Cameras and Camcorders.” That last part is a solid sign that it will indeed be a camera, and not just going to be a built-in feature on another tablet or phone.
No other information was included in the filing, but an Android –powered camera rocking Samsung’s Galaxy name doesn’t sound too farfetched. The question now is when they plan to launch such a device. The trademark filing simply secures the name, but it doesn’t assure a quick introduction.
When they ever do come out with an Android-powered camera, it won’t be the first. Polaroid has already shown what you can do with a “smart camera” after unveiling the Polaroid SC1630 that features a 16-megapixel sensor, 3X optical zoom, a touchscreen display, Wi-fi and Geotagging, and the ability to connect with Google’s Android Market.
