Canon rolled out a bunch of new compact-cams under their PowerShot A-series at CP+, but the PowerShot SX260 HS that they unveiled for their super-zoom SX line was what caught our attention. Mostly because they managed to stuff a 20x optical zoom lens into a body that only measures 33.2mm thick and weighs in at 223 grams (with a battery and memory card installed).
Inside the compact frame, the SX260HS features a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor that offers good low-light sensitivity, and Canon’s DIGIC 5 image processor that supports 1080p video recording. Like most of Canon’s new compacts, the SD260 HS also comes with an Intelligent IS feature for better shake-reduction, and GPS geotagging feature.
Other noteable features include a fast burst mode that’s capable of shooting 10.3 frames per second (for one second), plus face recognition and an auto-scene selector that chooses from 58 scene modes.
The PowerShot SX260HS is due out in March for $350 in three body colors.
