Absinthe untethered jailbreak for A5 devices on iOS 5, now available for Mac and Windows iPhone 4S Absinthe jailbreakHot news just arrived over the weekend for people rocking Apple’s A5 devices: the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices – or the jailbreak for iOS 5 that excluded users of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S when it was released for A4 devices back in late-December – is out now. Called Absinthe (from the people behind the original GreenPois0n tool), this tool makes for one of the simplest jailbreaking methods since JailbreakMe’s quick slide-to-jailbreak method.

Note: before doing anything, remember to back up your device with iTunes in case something goes wrong.

All you have to do is update your A5 device to iOS 5.0/ 5.0.1, download the tool (it’s available for both Mac and Windows, download links at the bottom of this page), plug in your device, run the Absinthe tool, then hit the “Jailbreak” button. After that, you’re device will reboot and look like it’s being restored.

Once it’s back up and running again, look for the “Absinthe” icon on your device’s Springboard. Tap it, and your device will reboot again. Once it’s completed, the icon will be replaced by the brown Cydia app icon, which means the process is done, and you can go back to… whatever it is you were doing before worrying about an A5 jailbreak ever getting released.

A detailed step-by-step is available at RedmondPie here (or from a number of other jailbreak-specific sites), but if you need to see how simple it is, here’s a video of how it’s done:
