Gresso, the company who evidently designs devices and accessories for kings and gajillionaires, just rolled out another new extravagant toy for the rich to spend on: a $50,000 mobile phone – one that isn’t even “smart” – called the Grand Premier.
For fifty large, you get a relatively slim (12mm thick) and sexy phone that you can smelt and pawn off to get a bit of value back. The Grand Premier sports a frame, buttons and D-Pad made of around 150 grams’ worth of 18 carat gold, while the front and back of the phone is made from sapphire crystal that tips the tiny scales at 138.5 carats.
Unfortunately, once you get past the luxury materials, there’s not much of a phone – or modern phone tech, to say the least – to speak of. The Grand Premier runs on a rather dated S40 featurephone UI, which is something you’d normally find on Nokia’s non-premium, non-smartphone handsets.
Gresso will be releasing the Grand Premier by the end of December for $50,000. To add to the desirability factor (at least for people who like gold on relatively simple, non-smart phones), Gresso will limit production to 50 units.
