Samsung released a 1-minute ad for the Samsung Galaxy S II. Called “The Next Big Thing”, the ad is unique as far as aggressive smartphones ads go, because for once it’s not a blatant attack on Apple’s iPhone. Instead, Samsung takes aim at Apple fans on this one. The ad shows Apple fans excitedly lined up for hours outside Apple stores in different cities, presumably to get an iPhone 4S, a.k.a Apple’s “next big thing”. While in line, they spot other people already rocking the Galaxy S II that boasts a bigger screen and 4G connectivity, neatly tying into Samsung’s message: “the next big thing is already here”. [Video after the break.]
The clip shows multiple conversations between the people in line, with bits of humor mixed in as they complain about the iPhone 4S’s carried-over design – one guy asks “if it looks the same, how will people know I upgraded?” – a dig at the guy’s shallow need to show off “Apple’s latest.”
Another highlight on this one: the part near the end where one guy says “I can never get a Samsung. I’m creative,” then his friend rags on him with “Dude, you’re a barista.” Personally, I rock an iPhone, an iPad, and an iPod, but that one had me laughing. Congratulations, Samsung — I’m not sure how many Apple fans are going to be swayed by this “attack”, but I have to say this: you got balls. I love it. (I’m sure the Android community does too.)
