Verizon to rename upcoming Xoom 2 tablets to “Droid Xyboard”? Moto Droid Xyboard VerizonMotorola’s upcoming Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition tablets will reportedly be sold under a different name once it hits Verizon. The carrier’s inventory listings had two tablets named “Droid Xyboard 10.1” and “Droid Xyboard 8.2,” referring to the Motorola tablets.

While products have been listed under different codenames before, this rebranding looks like a definite go. According to earlier reports, Verizon has applied for trademarks on the (rather awkward-sounding) “Xyboard” name last month, which will likely only apply to US versions of the tablet. For everyone else? It’s still the Xoom 2. Motorola has already confirmed plans for both the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition in Europe.

The two tablets come packing dual-core 2.1GHz TI OMAP processors, 1GB of memory, 16GB of onboard storage, and dual cameras (5MP main, 3MP front). The Xoom 2 will come with a 10-inch screen, while the Media Edition will be packing an 8.2-inch screen as an option for people who prefer a more compact tablet.

No word on Verizon’s launch plans just yet, but thanks to the inventory sighting, it shouldn’t be long before we get the official announcement.
